How to Calculate the Life Path Number
The Life Path number is the most important number in numerology because it describes the most about who a person is in life. Overall the Life Path is an outline of your life's journey. It shows the direction of your life, describes your general character, and it can assist you in creating a course of action to succeed in all areas of life. The main opportunity you have in life is also revealed in the Life Path number. This primary opportunity will continue showing up throughout your entire lifetime. The Life Path number is calculated using your full birthday. All elements of your birthday, the month, day, and year also represent your Life Path Periods.

To calculate the Life Path number, we use the entire birthday, month, day, and year. Each part of the full birthday needs to be kept separate while adding the individual numbers and reducing them down to either a single-digit number or a master number. Master numbers are the numbers 11 and 22. If a master number appears anywhere while calculating, we do not reduce the master number, we keep it at 11 or 22. The examples below will help you understand the basics of numerology, and teach you how to calculate the Life Path number for anyone.

Let's figure out the life path number for people born on June 16, 1980. Start by writing out the full birthday. June is the 6th month of the year, so the numeric value of June is 6. Write a 6 below the month.

June 16, 1980
   6

Next, look at the birth date, the 16th. We need to add up both digits that make up the 16, so 16 turns into 1 + 6 = 7. Write the number 7 under the 16 birth date.

June 16, 1980
   6     7

The next step is to add up all the digits in the birth year. 1980 is 1 + 9 + 8 + 0 = 18. Write 18 under the birth year.

June 16, 1980
   6     7     18

Now that we have added up the value of each element in the full birthday, month, day, and year, the next step is to reduce each of those numbers down to a single-digit number, or a master number. As you can see, the only number we have left to reduce down to a single-digit number is the 18. So, 1 + 8 = 9. We can now put the 9 into the next line while simply carrying down the numbers that are already single-digit numbers.

June 16, 1980
   6     7      18
   6     7       9

Now that each element of the birthday, month, day, and year are reduced down to a single-digit number (or master number), we can add all of these numbers together. So, 6 + 7 + 9 = 22

Since 22 is a master number, we do not reduce it anymore which means we are done calculating the life path. The life path number for people born on June 16, 1980 is 22. Finally, we look at the meanings of the number to 22 using the list below. We discover that 22 means Master Builder. The positive side of the number 22 is being a top-performer (for example being on top in a person's career area). People with the 22 life path often want to build something of lasting value such as a business or organization that helps other people. The challenging side of the number 22 is being self-serving, or keeping all of the good things for oneself without sharing or helping others. The master number 22 carries with it very high energy, higher responsibility in life, but also greater rewards in life.

See if you can figure out the life path number for someone born on November 30, 1977. Use the instructions above if you forget a step. The month of November is the 11th month which means we do not reduce the 11 because it is a master number. For people born in December, the 12th month, we add up 1 + 2 to get a value of 3 for December.

November 30, 1977
      11         3     24
      11         3      6
11 + 3 + 6 = 20
2 + 0 = 2 Life Path

The number 2 means Cooperation. The positive side of the number 2 is a person learning how to be cooperative with others while the challenging side is being reclusive or not cooperating with others. Even numbers are also associated with group activities, are more practical, and require more responsibility than odd numbers.
